Although unsure as to what exactly inspired him to become a physician, Dr. Blaivas is a very passionate person who enjoys everything he does. The notion that he is helping people and has the opportunity to do so everyday, keeps him going. Jerry Blaivas, MD: Well, to be honest, I have no idea what inspired me to become a doctor in the first place. By nature, I am a really passionate person, I like practically everything I do, I never get bored and I think whatever I was doing in college at the time made me apply to medical school. I was not pre-med, I have not even taken pre-med courses and when I actually got into medical school, while everybody else was taken to senior vacation, I was taking my pre-med requirements to get into medical school. So I do not know what made me do it in the first place but I can tell you what keeps me going and what makes me love it and that is the real ability to help people and make a difference by applying just common sense logic to the practice of medicine. What I see happening around me, something that I do not like very much, and with increasing regulations and more and more doctors are being asked to treat patients according to different algorithms. Caribbean Travels: El Morro Fortress, San Juan, Puerto Rico

El Morro Fortress, which is also known as Castillo de San Felipe del Morro is a 16th century fortress situated at the entrance of San Juan harbor in Puerto Rico. It was originally named in honor of King Philip II of Spain and was built to defend the City of San Juan from sea invaders. Puerto Rico was originally discovered by Christopher Columbus who claimed it for Spain. He called the island San Juan to honor St. John the Baptist but later this name was given to the city itself. Puerto Rico means "rich port" and because of San Juan's strategic location and natural harbor, different countries and even pirates wanted to claim it for their own. In the 16th century it became necessary to build a fortress to defend the Spanish territory from these invaders which included the likes of Sir Francis Drake and the Earl of Cumberland, both representing England. The Dutch did manage to successfully penetrate the fortress from the land side which required that walls be added to the city in 1634. Work continued well into the 1700's to ensure that the fortress be able to withstand future invasion. The Spaniards enlarged El Morro as well as San Cristobal fort and what you see today is the culmination of 150 years of construction on six levels and at 145 feet above sea level! The last active battle occurred during the 1898 Spanish-American War and was a naval bombardment by the US Navy. The fortress could not match modern weaponry and the war finally ended with the signing of the Treaty ...

Walt Disney World Vacation Video Montage 2011 - Halloween

Our 2011 WDW trip was shorter than our usual trips but we went for Halloween and had a wonderful time! The kids loved dressing up and going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. We stayed at Old Key West during this trip and it was really relaxing. Hope you enjoy the short little video I put together. With only one park day during the trip I did not have much video to pull from...haha :) We also had my grandmother go with us for this trip and the kids loved getting to show her around. Can't wait for our trip this year!!!
