jetstreamnews.com astronaut, scientist, and author Dr. Edgar Mitchell discussed his experiences being part of the Apollo 14 mission, his views on ET visitation, and his research into the nature of consciousness. During the 1971 mission, Mitchell and his fellow astronauts spent 34 hours on the moon- with 10 of those hours, walking on the moon's surface. During the flight, he said they heard "ping" sounds, coming from micrometeorites hitting the craft. While Mitchell said he found no signs of bases or artificial structures on the moon, he does believe there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that ETs have visited the Earth. He doesn't have first hand knowledge, but has heard accounts from multiple high-level sources, such as Wernher von Braun, regarding ET contacts and UFOs. Quite a few of the astronauts saw or chased UFOs in their careers as military pilots before they joined NASA, he added. Mitchell, who founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences to sponsor research into the nature of consciousness, discussed the "dyadic" model he developed, which uses energy and information as fundamental concepts in understanding consciousness. Paranormalist Uri Geller joined the conversation for a segment. He recounted the time that he and Mitchell were involved in experimental studies at SRI, and without notice three pieces from Mitchell's jewelry box (which had been lost years earlier), teleported into the room over a number of hours. Mental Stress May Be Damaging Mom's Heart New research finds stress affects a woman's heart more (May 9, 2012) BRADENTON, Fla. -- Just in time for Mother's Day, new research shows coping with mental pressures and anxiety may be more taxing on the heart health of women. The study, presented at a recent annual Experimental Biology meeting, showed men and women given the same stressful math problem all had an increase in blood pressure and heart rate while solving it. Normally, when heart rate and blood pressure rise, blood flow to the heart muscle increases so it can compensate. However, findings showed while the men's heart increased blood flow, the women's heart did not. With many mothers overextending themselves, local cardiologists say stress management is a key factor in maintaining a healthy heart. "Stress reduction is important for everyone. This study suggests women especially need to monitor their stress to avoid heart problems. And, women who have heart-related symptoms while under stress, need to tell their doctor right away," says Jeffrey Rothfeld MD, FACC, a cardiologist at Bradenton Cardiology Center. Studies of heart attack patients found that 15 to 30 percent of those admitted to a medical center had suffered from severe emotional stress. "High levels of stress make other risk factors such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure worse," Rothfeld says. Being able to identify stressors in life and releasing the tension they cause is critical in learning to ...

Falour, BS, MBA all rights reserved LISA, INC. (EURL) cutecatfaith.com Everyone has their thoughts on weight reduction diets! I think a few times, my weight gains were pretty much beyond my control -- surgery, incapacity due to accidents, pregnancy -- but frequently, have been due to some bad habits of mine. I've certainly tried quite a few diets over the decades, and some did work, but had some unpleasant side effects. (The Atkins diet caused a lot of problems when my mother got us to follow it, beginning in the '70s. Pancreatitis was a negative side effect of that one. We all got it right away, and the damage is permanent.) (One good thing was kicking sugar, however -- that was hell! Hardest substance I've ever kicked!) I did that Scarsdale diet and it worked, but was so unpleasant, my spouse at the time begged us to go off it and I agreed. Okay I lost six pounds the first week, but yecch! I followed a low-fat, low calorie diet for five months in late '84 and early '85 -- it was similar to Weight Watchers. It was a long, unpleasant five months, I got very close to my "ideal weight," I looked and felt dreadful, and my immune system started to fail. I was a temporary legal secretary during part of my grad school studies. I hated the work but there was a kitchen with skim milk at this one law firm where I ...
Of Mice, Birds and Men: The Mouse Ultrasonic Song System has Features Once Throught Unique to Humans and Song Learning Birds Air date: Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 3:00:00 PM Timedisplayed is Eastern Time, Washington DC Local Category: Wednesday Afternoon Lectures Description: Humans and song-learning birds communicate acoustically using learned vocalizations. The characteristic features of this social communication behavior include vocal control by forebrain motor areas, a direct cortical projection to brainstem vocal motor neurons, and dependence on auditory feedback to develop and maintain learned vocalizations. These features have not been found in closely related primate and avian species that do not learn vocalizations. Male mice produce courtship ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) with acoustic features similar to songs of song-learning birds. However, it is assumed that mice lack a forebrain system for vocal modification and that their USVs are innate. Dr. Jarvis will present his lab's discovery of the mouse song system and show that it includes a localized motor cortex region, which—during singing—projects directly to brainstem vocal motor neurons and keeps songs more stereotyped and on pitch. His lab also discovered that male mice depend on auditory feedback to develop and maintain normal ultrasonic song. When cross-housed under competitive social conditions, substrains of mice that have differences in their songs can imitate each others' pitch. Dr. Jarvis concludes ...
