Never got out of state when hang gliding many years ago during college and a few years after. So since my return to the sport last year I have been looking forward to flying out of state sites. This is my first in a long list I plan on doing. Many thanks to Jonathan Dietch for his advice on the site, and to Bertus for allowing me to shamelessly steal a song from his PG video in Arizona - the song is the last one - Log Bomb by Bob Log III. Chicago news choppers, air ambulance, C-17 Globemaster III & other aircraft over downtown 5/18/12

In this video you'll see the news helicopters for Chicago's CBS, NBC, ABC, and WGN TV news channels. They were all covering a nurses' protest in downtown Chicago that coincided with the 2012 NATO Summit in the city. You'll also see a couple of other aircraft including a Cessna flying a Geico banner over Lake Michigan in front of downtown, an air ambulance, a US Customs and Border Protection chopper, and a C-17 Globemaster III. There were several other aircraft taking part in the exercise, but I didn't get to see them as they were over the South and West sides of the city whereas I was expecting them in front of Buckingham Fountain in downtown. The other aircraft involved were an Air National Guard C-21, KC-135 Stratotanker, 2 Illinois Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcons, and an HH-65 Dolphin Coast Guard search & rescue helicopter. Testing my new FPV camera HoryzonHD (nice enginefailure at the end)

This sunday was the first time I flew my Easystar. After a long winter and a cold spring, we finally have nice weather so a good moment to try out my new HoryzonHD. In this video I use my KX550 as primary flightcamera and the new Horyzon as HD recorder. I didn't have much time so I just put the camera on top of the plane. I like the camera very much! It's very lightweight, very affordable and shoots very nice HD footage. It's a good competitor for the GoPro imo The only thing I don't like about it is that it's quite dark. The image from my KX550 is much brighter. Also, the camera needs a good mount because it tends to give a wobbly "rolling shutter" image as you can sometimes see when I use the throttle. I plan on using the HoryzonHD for my new pre-ordered X8 Flying Wing because it can record HD and at the same time output live view through the AV-out making it an ideal FPV camera. In this video, I take my Easystar to 500 meters and sail all the way down. At the end of the video when I'm close to the ground again, I'm making a left turn to fly a bit longer and then my engine fails forcing me to land the plane. I was almost out of landing space when I realized the motor wasn't working :-) This problem has happened a few times before. The engine makes a chirping noise and the prop stutters. I'm not sure what it is, I've already replaced the engine and resoldered the ESC wires. Maybe the wires have a small crack in them somewhere, maybe the ESC is malfunctioning. It usually ...
