Protest against 78 - Montreal City 20/05/12

I live in Montreal, Quebec. Home of the student protests against a hike in tuition. I had yet to participate in a protest until last night. Recently some laws have passed. Laws that take away some civilian rights if I understand correctly. I didn't expect it to be violent, in fact the people marching near me seemed very peaceful. So peaceful in fact that those with green squares were marching alongside those with red and suddenly I realized it was no longer just about tuition prices but that injustice has been born from the manner the students were being dealt with. I will never forget the taste and pain of the pepper spray which was shot as us with no warning and caused innocent protesters (Mostly photographers, like myself) to run away in fear while covering their eyes. There was a lot of running, which made it difficult to get good footage. I wear neither green, black or red square. I am just a photographer and I am very disappointed with the way the authorities dealt with such a peaceful segment of the protest.
