The Heineken TransAtlantic Festival, created by the Rhythm Foundation, is an annual highlight in the South Florida music scene. This unique, "boutique" Festival explores new world music from the Atlantic rim, with a focus on artists whose music arises in the beautiful collision between traditional and electronic culture. The series also pays tribute to Miami as a true TransAtlantic capital, a crossroads for the Americas, Europe and Africa. The Festival began in 2003 at the North Beach Bandshell, and has introduced Miami to great artists including Chambao, Bajofondo, Sidestepper, Bossacucanova, Seu Jorge, Céu, Tinariwen and many others. Since 2003 the 10 editions of the festival have welcomed over 45000 people to see over 75 artists, including 24 Florida debuts and 4 US debut performances. The 10th anniversary edition featured the powerhouse Afrobeat of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Quantic Sound System's electro Colombian grooves, the Cuban funk of the Pedrito Martinez Group, and the after show parties starred the Latin Grammy nominated Mr. Pauer.
Instead of revising for an exam I have tomorrow, I made a song. I know, my priorities are in disarray. I have to admit this was sort of rushed, but the limitations of Ableton Live Lite, makes me think of the songs uploaded so far, as demos and not the 'final product'. Hopefully when I've got access and understanding to a better programme, I'll get some polished tunes out there. Anyway, enjoy.
