Failed Recording Attempt (With Ambiance): Model 2 & Whelen 2807s, Mt Auburn, IA - February 4, 2012

Whelen windup at 0:20. Model 2, unfortunately, sits silent the whole time. Mount Auburn recently installed a Model 2 to replace the dead (but still standing) MARS siren. Not knowing for certain if/when it gets regularly tested, I just took a shot and tried for a Saturday Noon test. Alas, this proved to be fruitless, as the siren did not sound. However, an unexpected surprise occurred during this outing. Although the Model 2 didn't sound, the Whelens in Vinton did, and were heard all the way in Mount Auburn. That's a distance of seven miles "as the crow flies". As much as people seem to dislike Whelen, it must be admitted that some of their models can have impressive range!
